Evidence of Roman occupation in Calne will be on show at an exhibition in the Heritage Centre this month.
The Seeking Roman Calne project has been running since September and organisers are beginning to form a clear picture of life in the town during Roman times.
County archaeologist Wendy Smith, who volunteers at Calne Heritage Centre, said: “Piecing together the artefacts people in Calne have found, past finds and modern archaeological techniques a much larger than expected Roman presence in Calne and Calne Without is now evident. “We want to share our success with everyone so we will be holding an exhibition at the Calne Heritage Centre. ”
The exhibition will open with a talk about Roman money by Sam Moorhead, a coins expert from the British Museum, at 7.30pm on July 29. The display will run daily from 10am to 4pm until August 1, when there will be a Roman family fun day at the centre from 11am to 3pm.
