The widow of cricket statistician Bill Frindall has thanked friends in the world of cricket and the Devizes community for their support.

Debbie Frindall, who lives in Urchfont, said her phone had not stopped ringing since the news of her husband's death was made public on Friday.

She said: "People have been so kind. It hasn't sunk in yet. I can't believe he's gone."

Mr and Mrs Frindall had returned from Dubai, where Mr Frindall was covering a tour by the celebrity charity the Lord's Taverners, two weeks ago.

He became increasingly ill and a week last Sunday was taken into Great Western Hospital in Swindon when he experienced breathing difficulties.

He continued to deteriorate throughout the week and on Friday morning his heart gave out.

There have been tributes paid to him from many of his friends and acquaintances throughout the world of cricket. Sir Tim Rice, a close friend through the Lord's Taverners, praised him for his encyclopaedic knowledge of cricket, his sense of humour and his generosity.

Jonathan Agnew, his colleague on BBC radio's Test Match Special, also mourned the loss of a friend and key part of the broadcasting team.

Although the date of the funeral has not been set, it will take place at St Michael's Church in Urchfont followed by interment in the village cemetery.
