Lollipop lady Sue Cleaver has pulled out all the stops to make her charity Christmas lights display the best yet.

Not only does she have the usual Santas, reindeer and snowmen, but she has also created a Victorian-style toy shop out of a shed at her home in Parklands, Malmesbury. She has also dressed two life-size dolls as street urchins and put them peering in through the windows.

Mrs Cleaver has been thrilled with the response from passers-by.

She said: “The other day a car pulled up and I could see the children in the back straining their heads to get a proper look.

“Lots of people have been stopping and saying how nice it all looks. This year I think I’ve outdone myself.”

Mrs Cleaver is hoping the dazzling display will raise money for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance and has left a collection box inside the toy shop with a slot for coins.

“The air ambulance is a good cause and at the moment needs a lot of support,” she said.

The idea for the toy shop came about after a holiday in Devon when Mrs Cleaver visited a museum with an Victorian-style toy shop.

“I took some photos which gave me some ideas and started collecting traditional tin and wooden toys,” she said.

“I already had quite a few of the old dolls and picked up the rest of them in jumble sales and through friends.”

The only problem has been winds which have created havoc with the illuminated Santa.

Mrs Cleaver said: “Strong winds knocked Santa off and made half the lights go out.

“But it is only going to be a temporary problem and once we get them tied down properly the wind won’t be a problem.”
