Pensioner John Paton is thrilled after staff at Jag Communications in Chippenham finally solved his mobile phone dilemma.

Mr Paton, 76, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease and osteoporosis, came to the Gazette with his problem after he bought the phone on a 24- month contract with Orange over three weeks ago. He was told he would have excellent coverage where he lives in Lime Trees, Christian Malford.

But when he got home a message appeared on the screen saying ‘limited coverage’ and Mr Paton was unable to make calls.

At first the shop seemed reluctant to help but after the Gazette’s story appeared last week Mark Mitchell, marketing and media manager for Jag Communications, said staff at the shop in Borough Parade worked tirelessly to ensure the widower was not left stranded in an emergency.

He said: “We have now cancelled the contract. “The store manager, John Phillips, got hold of Orange and explained the situation.

“Orange have documents which tell us what areas have good signal coverage and, for Christian Malford, it does say the signal should be excellent, so I think it must just have been in Mr Paton’s house that the phone did not work.

“We have since spoken to Mr Paton’s carer to explain what we have done and she was very pleased.”
