ARMY personnel from Colerne have raised more than £3,000 for Help For Heroes from a three-day Christmas cake raffle held at Sainsbury’s in Chippenham.

The team of catering staff from 21 Signal Regiment at Azimghur Barracks hoped to raise £1,000.

The group each decorated their own Christmas cakes as part of a competition last week. They then placed the 12 cakes in the store to show shoppers what they could win, selling tickets from Monday morning to yesterday afternoon.

Sergeant Helen Goodall said: “I am ecstatic at how the whole thing has gone, it was a huge success. We managed to pass the £1,000 target on the first day and I think from looking at how popular the raffle was, we have raised more than £3,000.

“I am so proud of the team. They have put in a brilliant effort decorating the cakes and selling raffle tickets. Everybody worked together really well.”

The raffle winners were due to be announced yesterday afternoon.
