Traffic on most of the main roads in Chippenham town centre has come to a standstill after a main water pipe burst on Rowden Hill this morning.

Motorists are being advised to use any other road that does not involve the Bridge Centre roundabout as traffic there is gridlocked.

Workers from Wessex Water are at the scene trying to fix the problem but motorists are being warned to expect delays of up to half an hour.

Driver Sharon Avery said: "It has taken me about half an hour to get from Chippenham magistrates court to the hospital on Rowden Hill.

"Traffic is building up on every road and it is absolutely manic."
