Warwick-based Gallagher Developments has applied to Wiltshire Council for outline planning permission - which would secure the proposal in principle - at an eight hectare parcel of land east of Calne Road.
The firm says it wants to build "high quality, sustainable" homes of which 40 per cent - 80 units in total - would be designated affordable.
The site lies to the south-east of Lyneham with a military facility to the north and Melsome Road to the west. To the south of the site is a poultry farm.

The estate would be accessed from Calne Road and new pedestrian and cycling links are promised, along with open space, a children's play area, and new wildlife habitat creation.
One in every four houses would have a bat or bird box to mitigate against the loss of habitat, says the firm.
The houses would be heated by air source heat pumps. The development would be a 'walkable' neighbourhood with "opportunities for safe and attractive pedestrian and cycle connections."
