Drivers have been warned of delays after a key town centre road closed for the next week.

On Monday, August 8, there were queues of slow-moving traffic on the A4 Bath Road and Avenue La Fleche due to ongoing roadworks in Chippenham.

The A420 Ivy Lane was due to close on Monday morning from The Bridge Centre Roundabout to just past the railway arches.

This closure adds to roadworks that have been ongoing at the busy roundabout since Monday, August 4.

Ivy Lane will be closed to all traffic at all times for five days, while Wales & West Utilities carries out “urgent” gas mains replacement works at the site.

During this time, the official diversion route would take motorists back along the A4 Bath Road and Rowden Hill to The Pheasant Roundabout, then up Hungerdown Lane and along the A420 Bristol Road.

This comes amidst fears of increased traffic along New Road during the works.

A closure notice issued by Wiltshire Council said: “The closure and diversion route will be clearly indicated by traffic signs.

“Access will be maintained for residents and businesses where possible, although delays are likely due to the nature of the works.”
