A bid has been launched to save a Wiltshire farm and turn it into a space for the community.
Hardens Farm, off London Road in Chippenham, was recently put up for sale by Wiltshire Council for £750,000.
The farm had previously been part of a huge parcel of land earmarked for 1,500 homes and other infrastructure on the eastern edge of town.
This project stalled years ago and the farm will now be sold, but some residents want to see it become a space for local families.
Miriam Dann-Gandy and her friend Emma are both mums living in Chippenham and believe the farm could fill a gap in the market for a children’s play barn, cafe, outdoor community space, and animal sanctuary.
They have launched a Crowdfunder to try and raise the £800,000 needed to take on the property and are currently talking to local firms about possible investment.

“That access to open space on our doorstep is really special, to lose that would be really sad and it would be valuable to preserve it.
“As new mums we have found Chippenham lacks permanent spaces where you can meet with other parents in a safe and stimulating environment for your child such as outdoor stay and plays and play hubs… to bring that into Chippenham would be great.”
The plans for Hardens Farm include restoring the current buildings and opening the land up to the public with several facilities to attract families and other groups.
The pair will have to move fast as they have been informed the window for offers could be closed by the end of Friday, March 28, although they are hoping this will be extended.
If the campaign is unsuccessful donations will be refunded.

Ms Dann-Gandy added: “We needed to try and regret it didn’t work rather than regret not trying.
“We have contacted major companies in the area so it’s a case of chipping away and hoping we reach the right people who have an interest in preserving community space.
“I hope we will be successful but that remains to be seen.”
There has been support from locals, with many pointing out Chippenham lacks facilities for children to play outdoors, and a community meeting has also been held for those interested in joining the campaign.
