A Wiltshire farm previously earmarked for redevelopment in a 1,500-home scheme is on the market for nearly £1 million.

Hardens Farm in Chippenham, located off London Road near Abbeyfield School, has been put up for sale for £750,000 and is being marketed by Symonds & Sampson estate agents.

The farm had previously been part of a huge parcel of land earmarked for redevelopment on the eastern edge of the town.

In 2016, outline planning permission was sought for Hardens Farm to be the focus of a mixed-use local centre, following a refurbishment.

This was part of an expansive scheme to build 1,500 homes in the area, including a retirement village at New Leaze Farm, alongside a new distributor road linking the site to the A4.

Plans for an eastern distributor road were shelved years ago following objection and Wiltshire Council later withdrew from a funding agreement that would’ve seen a southern distributor road built, due to spiralling costs.

Symonds & Sampson says the farm still has development potential.

The listing added: “Rural potential development site extending to 1.55 acres and comprising Grade II listed Farmhouse, range of traditional and modern agricultural buildings with class Q development potential and excellent transport links.”
