Armed police swooped to arrest four people after an alleged shoplifting incident in Wiltshire.

Police were alerted to a reported high value theft at a store in Warminster and a car was subsequently located and stopped in Melksham in connection with this incident.

Officers from the Roads Policing Unit (RPU) worked alongside an Armed Response Vehicle (ARV) and officers from the Trowbridge Community Policing Team (CPT) to bring the vehicle to a stop.

Four males were found inside the car and all of them were arrested and taken into custody.

A spokesperson for the force said: “RPU working with ARV and Trowbridge CPT stopped this vehicle after the four males on board had just committed a high value shoplifting in Warminster.

“Vehicle located and stopped in Melksham, all goods recovered and four off to custody.”
