The owners of a Wiltshire shopping centre have reportedly received strong support for plans to regenerate the site.
Acorn Property Group has carried out its first public consultation over the proposed redevelopment of Emery Gate Shopping Centre in Chippenham, including a drop-in event attended by 274 people.
This was launched after initial plans to “transform” the town centre property, through an overhaul of the commercial offering and the creation of homes, were revealed.
Acorn says residents have shown support for the idea of regenerating the shopping centre, which is set to lose its biggest occupier in Tesco.
80 per cent of respondents supported the need for town centre regeneration and Acorn says the responses show a “clear preference” for a mixed-use development with residential and commercial spaces.

Locals also emphasised the importance of enhancing the connection between Emery Gate, Island Park, and the River Avon.
Head of commercial property Dane Cummings said: “We’re thrilled with the strong turnout and the valuable feedback we’ve received.
“The enthusiasm for the future of Emery Gate is clear.
“We want to hear from as many people as possible about what you think the future of Emery Gate should look like, so please get in touch.”
Acorn says it is engaging with stakeholders, including Chippenham Town Council, to ensure the project meets the community’s needs.
