A man suspected of driving into a police officer in Devizes has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Police are urgently trying to find the car that injured the emergency worker and have released a photo of a similar vehicle.

The victim spotted a white Dacia Jogger Expression with the registration number WU73MXL on a field near Conscience Lane at around 11.30pn on Saturday, June 1.

The officer stopped his vehicle, got out, then tried to speak to the occupants of the Dacia.

The driver failed to engage with him and intentionally hit the policeman while leaving the scene.

Paramedics took the injured officer to hospital for treatment and he has since been discharged to continue recovering at home.

His colleagues have carried out extensive enquiries and arrested a man in his 30s from Twerton in Bath on suspicion of attempted murder.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “We are keen to locate the Dacia we believe to have been involved and are urging members of the public with information to get in touch.

“We believe the vehicle may be in the area west of Bath.

If you can help in any way with finding the vehicle or if you know anything about what happened, please call 101 and quote log number 383 of June 1.”
