A 20mph speed limit has been officially implemented on a host of key town centre roads in Devizes.

On Wednesday, May 1, Wiltshire Council made an order to introduce 20mph speed limits on a number of the busiest roads in the town centre.

This came after the proposal was approved in January, following a public consultation last year.

The revised speed limits will become fully operational once signage has been fully installed, which is estimated to be by the end of Friday, May 16, following a short delay.

At the time of writing, Wiltshire Council confirmed installation was in progress.

Cllr Nick Holder, cabinet member for highways, said: “Unfortunately there has been a short delay in receiving the signs but the installation is now taking place.”

The lowering of the speed limit has been met with criticism by some, but the majority of respondents in last year’s consultation were hopeful it would improve road safety.
