Speeding drivers in Wiltshire face fines and penalty points after being caught by police.

Malmesbury Police’s speed enforcement team carried out a session on Tuesday, May 7 at The Hill in Little Somerford.

Officers spotted seven vehicles travelling faster than the speed limit and then issued the drivers with notices of intended prosecution for excessive speeding.

The monitored roads have a maximum legal speed limit of 30mph but several motorists ignored that and travelled well above that, with the fastest vehicle was captured at speeds of 45mph.

Depending on their previous convictions and history, six of the reported drivers will be offered a speed awareness course or face a £100 fine and three penalty points on their driving licence.

The one remaining driver will receive a £100 fine and get three penalty points with no option of taking the speed awareness course.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: Proceedings will now be undertaken to ensure the most appropriate outcome for the offenders takes place, which includes checking for MOT, insurance, and point totters.

“Captured footage will be analysed for other offences like seat belts and mobile phone use.”
