The owner of a caravan storage site in Wiltshire suffered potentially life-changing leg injuries after being run over and trapped under a gate.

Officers responded to emergency calls from the Chalcot Park site near Westbury and Dilton Marsh at around 2.40pm on Wednesday afternoon.

It is believed that two men were trying to gain access to the area and, when the owner refused to let them in, they struck the gate with their vehicle and hit the owner.

The victim, a man in his 60s, became trapped under the gate and the car and was later taken to hospital for treatment.

A silver BMW, which is believed to be the same vehicle that injured the victim, was later found abandoned on the Black Dog Hill layby.

Police are appealing for witnesses to this serious assault.

A spokesperson said: “If you saw anything suspicious in the area, or can help with our enquiries please contact us on 101 quoting reference number 54240032610.

“Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
