AN eyewitness has described the scene of last night’s attack in Trowbridge town centre that left the victim with a cut on the head from a man wielding a machete.
The victim was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath for treatment following the attack in Fore Street at around 6.30pm.
The man was said to have been struck by another man wielding a machete between the Coffee#1 café and the Santander Bank opposite Trowbridge Town Hall.
Several police quickly swooped on the scene and cordoned off Fore Street and sealed off parts of the town centre.
The eyewitness said: “I had a phone call from a contact of mine telling me of police cars under blue lights tearing into the centre of Trowbridge.
“I went into the town to find the centre closed off with many roads closed with police tape and officers manning the area.
“They closed off Silver Street, St George’s Works, Park Road, Market Street, Fore Street and Narrow Wine Street.
"On Fore Street three police cars sealing off the area near the betting shops and the Town Hall.
“I noticed a man, visibly shaken, with his light-coloured top covered in blood, and asked him if he was okay.
“He told me his friend had been attacked by a man using a machete and had been taken to hospital.
“More police arrived, including two vans and scene of crime vans with forensic officers who set up tripods to take photographs of the street centering on the area outside the coffee shop.
“Sometime later, the investigations moved to Park Road with forensic police officers now in white overalls taking photographs of the entrance to flats in Park Road.”
The town centre was sealed off for around two hours while police conducted their inquiries and made forensic investigations.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “We attended an address in Fore Street, Trowbridge, at about 6.45pm this evening (18/03) following reports that a male had been injured by a blade during an altercation by a person known to the victim.
