Detectives who have been investigating the unexpected discovery of a body in Trowbridge say that they believe the circumstances to be 'non-suspicious'.
The incident was first reported to Wiltshire Police just after 1.30pm on Thursday, March 7, when a member of the public made the horrific discovery of a man's body at farm land near Trowbridge and immediately alerted police.
Several police units descended on the Ashton Common site and a team of seven officers were later seen searching a field near where the body was discovered.
The deceased man was thought to be aged between 30-40 years old.
Since then, a full investigation was launched into the circumstances of the man's death and the gates to the farm building on Ashton Road were locked with officers manning the front and rear of the site.
In a new update, Wiltshire Police has now confirmed that a post-mortem has not been able to establish a cause of death, and the identity of the deceased is yet to be established.
"Detectives are now treating the death of a man, whose body was found at a rural site near Trowbridge, as non-suspicious," said a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police.
"Investigations have taken place at the site where his body was found and a post-mortem examination was carried out earlier in the week which was not able to determine a conclusive cause of death.
"Enquiries continue in order to determine the identity of the man."
