A van has been removed by police after it was left parked across a Wiltshire road, creating “danger” for other road users.

Sgt Howick and PC Hamel were on patrol in Westbury, on Friday, March 8, when they came across the vehicle, which was parked on the junction of Highland Close and Sandalwood Road.

The blue and white van was blocking the footpath at the junction while also sticking out onto Sandalwood Road, obstructing part of the carriageway.

Police say the parking posed “a danger to other road users” as pedestrians were unable to safely cross the road due to their view being hampered.

The van was also causing issues for drivers trying to exit Highland Close, who were forced to enter the carriageway without being able to check for traffic coming from their left.

Officers carried out enquiries to locate the vehicle’s owner and found it belonged to a non-local keeper.

Police decided to remove the van to prevent further obstruction of the highway.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Wiltshire Police has an obligation to ensure that the roads and pavements in and around our towns are safe for all to use.

“We will take action where we see such blatant disregard for road safety.

“Sadly we are not able to be on every street all the time.”
