A woman has been airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a serious crash on a busy Wiltshire road.

The driver, a woman in her 20s from Westbury, sustained “potentially life-threatening leg and internal injuries” after her Seat Ibiza collided with a tree on the A3098 near the town.

Police believe the incident happened at around 6.50pm on Monday, March 4, when the car left the carriageway on a right-hand bend and hit a tree at the Hisomley crossroads.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and the woman was airlifted to Southmead Hospital.

During the incident the road was closed from Dilton Marsh High Street to the junction with the A36 Black Dog Hill.

The route reopened by 7am on Tuesday morning.

Police are currently investigating the incident and have urged any witnesses to come forward.

A spokesperson for the force said: “A woman was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries following a collision on the A3098 yesterday (March 4).
