Police snared a motorist travelling at 37mph during a week of speed checks throughout the county.

The speeding driver was caught on Langley Road in Chippenham, travelling at 37mph in a 30mph zone, and issued with a traffic offence report on Wednesday, February 21.

As well as the Langley Road area, operations to catch offending drivers were also carried out in the village of Upper Seagry, north of the M4.

No drivers were caught travelling faster than the speed limit in the village.

On Thursday, February 22, more speed checks were carried out, this time by the Royal Wootton Bassett and Cricklade neighbourhood teams.

These operations took place across Broad Town and Lyneham.

One traffic offence report was issued and “several robust words of advice” were handed out to other motorists.

PC Lloyd said: “Come rain or shine if you think it’s okay to speed you should expect a fine.

“Speeding is one of the fatal five along with careless driving, drink and drug driving, not wearing a seatbelt, and using a mobile phone.

“Subsequently this is a contributing factor to road traffic collisions”.
