A man from a rural Wiltshire village has pleaded guilty to uploading indecent images of children to the internet after struggling with “isolation”.

Kai Penny, of London Road, Rudge, was first brought to the attention of Wiltshire Police when officers received information that a Google account in his name was uploading sexual videos of children to the internet.

According to prosecutor Keith Ballinger, Penny was visited at work by police officers and made to hand over his mobile phone.

After thorough examination, a number of indecent images of children were recovered from the 22-year-old’s Google Pixel phone and Samsung tablet.

Defence lawyer Caroline Dunn told the court that at that time, Penny had used the internet as a way to cope with isolation.

“He lives in a very remote location so is quite isolated by that,” she said.

“He is about five or six miles from the nearest bus stop and there is no one for him to meet with so he uses his computer because he is isolated.”

Appearing at Swindon Magistrates Court on Thursday, February 22, Penny pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children and was given a community order of 24 months and a sexual harm prevention order of five years.

The young man was also ordered to take part in a sexual offending programme and fined £150, as well as a £114 surcharge and £85 legal costs.

“You have pleaded guilty to a number of really serious offences, but we think you have got a good prospect of rehabilitation,” said chair of the magistrate's bench, Sarah Neish.
