Sainsbury's: Unleaded petrol unavailable at Chippenham store

A number of drivers claimed their vehicles broke down shortly after filling up with unleaded petrol from the Sainsbury’s filling station on Bath Road in Chippenham, on February 7.

The national chain is conducting an investigation into the incident and unleaded petrol remained unavailable at the time of writing, according to a Sainsbury’s spokesperson.

They added: “Super unleaded petrol is available for the price of unleaded at our Chippenham petrol filling station while our investigations continue.”

One of those affected was Sylwia Jones, who says her son Matt’s car broke down on a Corsham roundabout shortly after he filled it with petrol from Sainsbury’s.

She claims customer service staff informed her there had been several reports of “contaminated fuel” at the branch causing issues for drivers.

Mrs Jones added: “I was told by the garage there were other cars with the same issue, it seems to be quite widespread, and Sainsbury’s told me the fuel was contaminated and looked milky.”

The pair have since been informed that the car needed to be drained due to “water contamination” and were billed over £500 for the repairs.

Following numerous complaints from customers, Sainsbury’s apologised for any inconvenience caused.
