An A-road will be shut at one of the busiest junctions in a Wiltshire town for a weekend.

The A420 Ivy Lane will close on Saturday, February 24, and Sunday, February 25, between the hours of 8am and 5pm, despite signs suggesting a longer closure.

Virgin Media, which will be responsible for the roadworks, had installed signage warning motorists that the key route would be blocked for five days starting on February 12.

But Wiltshire Council told this paper that these signs had been put out in error and were due to be removed shortly.

The closure is instead scheduled to cover the weekend of February 24 and will be in place between The Bridge Centre Roundabout and the junction with New Road.

During this time Virgin Media will carry out connection works in the area between their network and Openreach’s network.

The council warned that delays will be likely due to the nature of the roadworks but added that access will be maintained for residents and businesses where possible.

Residents can request further information about the works by contacting Avonline Networks, which is working on behalf of Virgin Media.
