The new owners of a former High Street Wilko have revealed plans to renovate the store – but are yet to find new occupants.

Wilko closed its doors on Chippenham High Street for the final time in September amid mass branch closures.

The shop has since sat empty, with the retailer confirming Chippenham was not a location included in its plans to reopen UK stores.

After Wilko left the town, the unit was purchased by commercial property investors, The Harkalm Group.

Senior associate Charles Percival, who is handling the development, told this paper no occupier had yet been found and they would be “inviting interest” in the store soon.

Rumours had circulated that Tesco would take on the unit after bosses confirmed they were relocating from Emery Gate to the High Street.

But Harklam says the premises could become anything from a retail unit to a coffee shop or restaurant.

The developers have lodged plans to install a new shopfront, on the corner facing the River Avon.

An application for these external alterations was submitted to Wiltshire Council and Mr Percival hopes the scheme will “maximise” the area.

He said: “We wanted to make use of that corner looking out onto the river.

“It’s such a beautiful building and we want something that looks nice and maximises the High Street.”
