One of the county’s busiest A-roads is set to close for 12 nights through a Wiltshire village.

The A4 will shut at Box for 12 nights during a two-week period, during which time Wiltshire Council will carry out carriageway resurfacing, road marking replacement, and associated works.

This closure will come into force on Monday, February 5, and will remain in place until February 20, according to the council.

During this time, the route will be shut from The Wharf to the A365 Devizes Road between the hours of 7pm and midnight.

While the work is scheduled to be carried out over a 15-day period, the route is only due to shut for 12 nights, and it is not anticipated that roadworks will be in place over the weekend.

Motorists will be forced to use alternative routes while works are ongoing, with the council advising drivers to follow the official diversion route via the A46, A420 and A350 when heading towards Chippenham.

Access will be maintained for businesses and residents where possible, although the council has warned that delays are likely.

The completion of the works will be dependent on weather conditions.
