The new landlords of a Wiltshire village pub are hoping to transform the venue into a thriving “community hub.”

On November 23, 2023, The Lamb Inn at Urchfont, a few miles outside of Devizes, was reopened by new custodians Kevin and Julie May.

The pair, who boast 27 years of experience in the pub industry, were immediately faced with the challenge of the Christmas period but have been thrilled by the response from locals.

Mr May said: “Since opening the doors we have been made very welcome by the villagers who have continued to support us.

“It was pretty hectic to start with because we had the Christmas rush.”

The couple, who made the move to Urchfont after managing pubs around the south of England, identified The Lamb as an opportunity to restore the pub to being “the heart” of the village.

Mr May added: “We have worked well with Wadworth in the past and the Lamb is a lovely pub in the beautiful village of Urchfont.

“We saw the potential to make it a community pub and become the hub of the village hosting events.

“We have already seen the return of the bell ringers, local badminton teams, cricket team, book club, and skittle team to name a few.

“There is a lovely garden that has not been fully utilised yet so there is a fantastic opportunity there.”

The pub’s role as a hub at the centre of the village is vital, according to the Mays.

“We believe that any village is not complete without a thriving pub at the heart of it”, said Mr May.

“So we will endeavour to make The Lamb just that and to play a vital role in this beautiful village.

“We took our first pub in 1997 and have had pubs in Devon, Hampshire, Kent, Dorset, Surrey and now Wiltshire.

“They have been a full range from village pubs to foodie pubs, from High Street pubs to local pubs. The Lamb will be our home for many years to come.”

Food will also be back on the menu at The Lamb, from January 16 onwards, for the first time in over a year.

This announcement comes after the Mays hired Santia Pantaliano as the pub’s new chef.

She will be serving what Mr May described as “fresh pub food with flair”.

There are also plans for a range of regular events at the venue, including quiz nights, themed nights, meat raffles, live music and BBQs.
