Plans have been submitted for residents-only parking in a Wiltshire town centre street after 15 years of frustration for locals.

Concerns have been raised that those living in Flowers Yard, off Gladstone Road in Chippenham, have struggled to park near their homes for years due to spaces being taken by town centre visitors.

This is despite the residential road’s proximity to the Gladstone Road and Borough Parade car parks.

One local has now submitted a Highway Improvement Request to Chippenham Town Council suggesting some form of residents-only parking zone, allowing people to park near their homes.

In the application, they said: “Residents are unable to park anywhere near their properties due to Flowers being used by work vans, people working in town, people shopping and people using The Arc, even though there are two allocated car parks.

“The situation is going from bad to worse and I have been writing to the council for 15 years and I have copies of all correspondence.

“I have sent in petitions that were requested with signatures of all residents to ask for residents parking, nothing has been done.”

The town council’s planning committee will discuss the proposal at a meeting on Thursday, January 4, where they will decide whether to put it forward to the Chippenham Local Highways and Footpaths Improvement Group.
