A man has been jailed for nearly two years after he assaulted a woman while children watched on.

Samual Norris, 29, of Garrick Road in Bath, pleaded guilty to three counts of assault and one count of intentional strangulation.

The assault happened in Marlborough on June 19, 2022, and has been described by crime investigator Ms O’Harney as: “A prolonged and frightening assault taking place in front of small children.”

Norris faces 20 months in prison and was ordered to pay £187 in costs at a Swindon Crown Court hearing on December 20.

Wiltshire Police say that tackling violence against women and girls is a top priority for the force and they hope that this prison sentence will send out a strong message to perpetrators.

“I hope that the victim in this case feels a sense of justice for what they went through.

“I also hope that this encourages more victims to come forward and report domestic abuse,” added Ms O’Harney.

Anyone who feels they may be a victim of domestic abuse can report the incident or access advice on the Wiltshire Police website.
