A busy Wiltshire road is scheduled to close for more than five months while a roundabout is constructed for a housing development.

The B4528 between Showell and Patterdown, on the outskirts of Chippenham, will close from January 2 until June 9, 2024.

A closure order has been issued for the road between Holywell House and Showell House.

The road is often used by motorists heading into Chippenham via Patterdown and the closure could see increased traffic on the A350 West Cepen Way and the A4 Bath Road.

During the lengthy closure period, Dave Lucey Ltd will be carrying out the construction of a roundabout on the route, on behalf of Redcliffe Homes.

The roundabout would be situated near Redcliffe’s huge Rowden Park Garden Village development, which is being delivered in several phases.

Wiltshire Council expects the works to be completed by early June but this will be dependent on weather conditions.

The closure order will have a maximum duration of 18 months.

Access will be maintained for residents and businesses during this time, although it has been warned that delays are likely.

The official diversion route will see motorists looking to join the A4 Bath Road into Chippenham do so via the A350 at the Chequers Roundabout.
