A driver ploughed through the front wall of a bungalow in Wiltshire and had to be cut free from the car by firefighters.

The fire crews had to use hydraulic cutting equipment when trying to release the driver after crash on Shelley Drive in Salisbury.

The incident happened yesterday, Wednesday December 21 at around 10.40am.

The car was set in a part of the house's brickwork.

A spokesperson from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received a call at 10.39am yesterday morning from our Police colleagues about a road traffic collision on Shelley Drive, Salisbury.

"Crews from Salisbury and Ludgershall attended along with a crew from Fordingbridge and technical rescue team from Redbridge (H&IOW FRS).

"The incident involved a single vehicle and building – firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to release the driver who was then left in the care of our ambulance colleagues. Our stop was in at 11.20am."

Debbie Mallet lives close to Shelley Road.

She said: "I didn't see it crashing into the bungalow but I saw it afterwards. It's still there. Doubt that they can move it without some structural work. It's gone through the front window but it's also taken out quite a bit of brickwork."

Neighbour Jeremy Tooze believes a visitor to the property had missed the brake pedal and hit the throttle while parking.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 10:39hrs on Wednesday, December 20 to a road traffic incident on Shelley Drive, Salisbury. We sent three double-crewed land ambulances and an operations officer.

"No one was conveyed to hospital."
