Crews from two fire services were called to put out a vehicle on fire on the M4, which caused major delays for motorists.

The fire, which took place at around 9.30am, blocked one lane near of the M4 Eastbound between Junction 17 and Junction 18, near Leigh Delamere services.

Both Dorset & Wiltshire and Avon Fire Services were seen attending the incident wearing breathing apparatus.

"We received a call at 9am this morning about a vehicle fire on the M4 at Junction 18,” said a spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.

"The incident involved a light commercial vehicle – two breathing apparatus wearers used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

"Our stop was in at 10.09am and the incident was handed over to the police."

Avon Fire & Rescue Service has confirmed that they were also in attendance, however the ambulance service was not needed as there were no casualties.

Traffic on the M4 has now returned to normal as all lanes have been reopened.
