Two more Wiltshire towns have kicked off Christmas in style by turning on their lights displays at busy events.
Chippenham’s town centre Christmas lights displays were switched on by Santa, who made his traditional entrance by abseiling into the Market Place, and town mayor Cllr Declan Baseley on Saturday, December 2.
The day was marked by a host of activities including live music and market stalls.
A spokesperson for the town council said: “Wow, what a brilliant day, the Christmas lights are on.
“Thank you all for joining us for festive fun in the cold weather today.
“Special thanks to the mayor of Chippenham and Santa for switching the lights on, and to the team who have worked hard to deliver such a fantastic day.”
Meanwhile in Corsham on Friday, December 1, the lights were switched on by 5-year-old George who won the town council’s design a Christmas card competition.
The evening was labelled a “friendly and festive” success by Santa.
A town council spokesperson added: “Thank you to everyone who kicked off the Christmas season by visiting the Corsham Christmas lights switch on.
“Thank you to all our councillors and staff who made the Corsham Christmas lights switch on a successful event while giving up their free time.”
