Wiltshire Council looks set to sell a former children’s resource centre valued at almost £1 million near a town centre.

Melbourne House, just off The Nursery in Devizes, was put up for sale by the council after being fenced off earlier this year.

The Grade II listed Georgian building was previously used as a children’s resource centre for the local community.

But after an expansion and refurbishment of the council’s Trowbridge facility, which now provides increased family area, the building has been deemed redundant for operational purposes.

The site had been listed on property website Rightmove, by estate agents Cobb Farr, for offers exceeding £900,000.

But at the time of writing the listing has been removed and the property is described as sold subject to contract.

Wiltshire Council told this paper that they are continuing with the sale process for the site but cannot confirm anything further at this stage.

The house itself has three floors and boasts seven bedrooms, as well as further accommodation in a two-storey annexe.

It sits within a half an acre of gardens that also contain a brick-built gazebo and ample parking space.

The property also boasts a dry cellar and basement, and a roofline observatory on the top floor.
