A prominent former car dealership in Wiltshire could be demolished and replaced with a new three-storey self-storage facility.

The Islington Vauxhall Garage on the A4 Bath Road into Chippenham, near the Methuen Park roundabout, closed earlier this year.

In August, the site was bought by Cinch Self Storage which has unveiled a plan to demolish the existing garage building and construct a purpose-built self-storage facility.

This proposal is currently in its early stages, and the firm has launched a consultation website to gather feedback from residents ahead of finalising a planning application.

In the meantime, the site, which has had its internal fixtures and fittings stripped, remains fenced off by a security firm.

Cinch plans to construct a 5,394sq metre facility, which will be three storeys high, to provide “modern and attractive” storage units of various sizes for residents and businesses.

If built as planned it would boast a metal façade and could also house offices and amenities for staff.

The new building would align with the site’s southern boundary, along Bath Road, and Cinch says the ridge height will be “broadly consistent” with the nearest residential properties.

Existing vehicle access from Hereford Close would be retained.

A drop-in session for the public will be held at the site on November 28 followed by a webinar on December 5.
