More flooding could be on the way after parts of Wiltshire was issued with a yellow weather warning for this weekend.

Storm Ciarán brought heavy rain and strong winds to much of southern England earlier this week, with areas of Wiltshire affected on Wednesday evening and into Thursday.

Several roads across Swindon and the wider county were affected, whilst thousands of people were left without power and one school was forced to close early because of the risk of flooding.

Now, the Met Office has warned residents that more rain is one the way which could bring flooding to some areas.

The warning area, which comes into force at 5am on Saturday, covers areas from Westbury and Tidworth to the south coast.

It also covers Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and much of Hampshire, Sussex and Kent.

A statement on the Met Office website said: “A spell of heavy rain early in the day clears northwards but is followed by fairly frequent heavy and blustery showers.

“These are likely to be focused in some southern and south-eastern coastal counties by afternoon, with thunderstorms catching a few locations.

“Around 15-25 mm of rain will fall in some places but with perhaps 30 - 40 mm by the end of the day in coastal southeast England.

“Additional hazards could include large waves and spray along some southern coasts.”

Residents have been told to expect spray and flooding on the roads while some houses may also flood due to heavy rain falling on "saturated ground".
