Police have stepped up patrols near Wiltshire schools after an increase in parking offences during pick-up and drop-off times.

Since September, officers in the Devizes Neighbourhood Policing Team have received increased reports of parking issues outside schools in their area.

Patrols have now been launched outside a number of schools in the surrounding villages to ensure parents are not causing “congestion” or “visibility” issues.

Officers have urged drivers to take care not to commit offences under the Road Traffic Act, during pick-up and drop-off, by not parking on the pavement causing an obstruction or within ten metres of a junction or bend.

Parents were also advised to consider walking to school and reminded not to park on double yellow lines or zig zags.

“We will be making patrols of these and other schools again over the next few weeks.

“The increased visible presence will be to prevent any incidents occurring and to educate on the consequences of what can sometimes be perceived as a minor issue.”
