The two-week closure of a major Wiltshire route looks set to be extended for a further week.

Wiltshire Council closed the A4 London Road in Calne for two weeks, during resurfacing works, from Monday, September 11, until September 25.

But this closure notice has now been extended for another working week, until Friday, September 29, according to the council’s roadworks map.

The major route through the town will now remain shut, between the junction with the A3102 and Lake View, for several extra days.

Motorists have been warned that delays are likely during this time due to the nature of the works.

When the roadworks were announced, Councillor Caroline Thomas, the cabinet member for transport, apologised for any inconvenience caused.

She said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this resurfacing, but this is essential work to maintain this important route.

“We are also doing all we can to minimise disruption by completing the two-week work in phases to enable access to the local schools, though people may need to change their usual route. School buses will have access throughout.”
