The family of a “wonderful” young mother killed in a car crash have paid tribute to her five years after her death.

Karly Heweson died on the night of August 27, 2018, when the car she had been travelling in crashed at Prison Bridge on the A361 Bath Road in Devizes.

The 21-year-old mother sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

On the fifth anniversary of the tragic incident, Karly’s family paid tribute to her by leaving 21 sunflowers, one for each year of her life, on the bridge in her memory.

In a Facebook post on the anniversary, Karly’s mum Julie Woods spoke of the devastation caused by her death.

She said: “I still cannot put into words the heartbreak, the devastation, the complete annihilation of our lives since that night.

“It took your future, your hopes and dreams. Your life.

“It took Joshie’s Mummy.

“And it took my beautiful, wonderful, kind, clever and funny darling daughter.

“My heart and soul.

“And yet our lives go on.

“We love you, we miss you and our broken hearts ache for you every day.”

Karly left behind a one-year-old son, Joshua, and was described by her family as a “wonderful” mother who would have made “lots more happy memories” with her son.

The 21-year-old was hugely popular in the area and was known as a “free spirit and wonderful young lady.”

In a statement released days after the crash, Karly’s family said: “Karly was the most beautiful, kind, loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece and cousin a family could ever ask for. She was a free spirit and wonderful young lady with so much to live for.

"It is impossible to put into words just how devastated we are to have lost our Karly so suddenly and in such tragic circumstances - the pain we feel is indescribable and she will leave such a huge hole in our lives. Her energy, beauty and love of life will live on in her son JJ.

"We’d like to thank everyone who has sent us messages of support - we have been overwhelmed by your kindness and the sheer volume of messages is testament to just how popular Karly was.”

Devizes man Brad Hayden was sentenced to four years in prison for Karly’s death after pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

The 26-year-old, who had been drinking that night, was also banned from driving for five years.
