A business has been fined £700 after fly-tipping black refuse bags in a Wiltshire High Street.

The business, which cannot be named because the fixed penalty notice was paid within the required timescale, was found to have dumped the rubbish in Royal Wootton Bassett High Street on Friday, February 10.

After enforcement officers traced the fly-tip to the business operator, who admitted to depositing the waste, they slapped them with a £400 fine for fly-tipping and a £300 fine for failing to produce waste transfer notes.

A groundwork tradesperson from Westbury has also been targeted by the council in recent months after removing rubbish in Devizes without a valid waste carrier license.

They were apprehended following a tip-off from a member of the public in May and admitted to disposing of their business waste in domestic bins or giving it to another person.

The council handed them two £300 fines, one for failure to provide a valid license and another for failing to produce waste documents.

Cllr Caroline Thomas, cabinet member for street scene, said: “This is another example of the great work our officers do to help combat fly-tipping.

“By enforcing waste transportation and transfer regulations, businesses and residents will be able to mitigate the risk of waste ending up being fly-tipped.”
