Celebrity guests are set to wow sci-fi fans when an annual festival returns to the REME Museum.

Fans are being invited to dress as their favourite ‘out of this world’ character and roam the Lyneham venue alongside other fantasy creatures.

The event, being held on Saturday, September 9, will feature guests and iconic memorabilia from franchises such as Star Wars, Dr Who and Red Dwarf among others.

It will only be the second time that this event has been held in Lyneham.

“After last year's success, we’re really pulling out all the stops, planning to make a really exciting atmosphere within our galleries,” said Lucy Brown from REME Museum.

"This year fans can expect special guest appearances from Nicola Bryant, Mike Edmonds, Clem So, Jerome Blake and Nev Fountain," she added.

Between them, these sci-fi legends have starred in and written roles for blockbuster franchises Star Wars, Doctor Who, Marvel, Blackadder, Harry Potter and more.

They will be available for autographs and exclusive photo opportunities.

The REME Museum exists to tell the story of the Corps of The Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.

Although sci-fi may seem a bit out of their reach, the museum have explained that:

"A lot of sci-fi is based on history and technology, two things we have a lot of in the Museum. Plus, it’s a fun way of fundraising!"

Life-sized props and real costumes will be dotted around the venue, and fans can purchase merchandise from a wide range of traders and sellers.

Some of those props have already been spotted around Royal Wootton Bassett and other surrounding towns as excitement builds.

The event will run from 10am-4.30pm and tickets are available online at REME Museum’s website.

You can get there via car (although pre-booking a free parking space is advised as the car park can fill up) or by the number 55 bus which leaves from Chippenham and Swindon railway stations and goes directly to MOD Lyneham, 100 yards from the museum.

Visitors are also encouraged to bring cash with them as memorabilia trader stalls within the venue cannot guarantee card payments.
