Roadworks are set to remain in place between two busy Wiltshire roundabouts after they were "not carried out to the required standard".

Temporary speed restrictions of between 30 and 40mph have been in place along the A350, between Lackham and Chequers Roundabouts in Chippenham, since July 11, 2022, while roadworks have been ongoing.

The works are being carried out on behalf of developers Baylis Estates, who are constructing a new roundabout access to the site of a 44-acre industrial estate scheme.

But while the restrictions were due to end on June 30, Wiltshire Council have confirmed this has now been extended after the completed surfacing works did not meet the required standard.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald:

The council’s roadworks map indicates the new expected completion date is July 31, although this was not confirmed by the council when asked.

Council leader Cllr Richard Clewer said: “Unfortunately the surfacing works carried out by the developer’s contactor did not meet the correct standard so the roadworks and speed restrictions will remain in place while the issue is addressed.

“We are working with the developer’s contractor to complete these remedial works as soon as possible.”

Once completed the works are set to provide access to the site of Southpoint Business Park, a new industrial estate which Baylis Estates say will house over 500,000sq feet of employment facilities.
