Starbucks has closed for good in Trowbridge town centre.

Staff at the outlet in Fore Street shut the doors for the last time at 4pm on Friday, July 21.

Trowbridge Town Council leader Stewart Palmen said: “It came as a bit of as surprise. It’s a bit of a shame but we are not short of coffee shops in Trowbridge.”

The coffee shop was operated by 23.5 Degrees, which was Starbucks' first UK franchised business partner.

The Southampton-based company has been approached for comment.

23.5 Degrees opened its first store in February 2013 and now has 99 stores - 58 of which are drive thru - across the UK with another 23 in the pipeline over the next year.

It says: “We have ambitious plans for growth and plan to reach 300 stores by 2028.

"We’re actively seeking both freehold and leasehold Drive Thru opportunities sitting on main arterial routes, close to major retail destinations or on large industrial estates.

“We will also consider retail park and ‘drive to’ destinations, as well as High Street units in prominent high footfall locations.

The company has the rights to develop shops in 25 counties, including Wiltshire.
