The family of a “respected” equine podiatrist, who died after falling from her horse on a busy road, have paid tribute to her.

Jayne Hunt died in a crash at Bollands Hill near Seend, on July 9, after her horse was reportedly spooked by a motorcycle approaching from a blind bend, causing her to fall.

Jayne, who was in her 50s and from Melksham, died at the scene from injuries sustained in the fall.

Her family have now released a heartfelt tribute celebrating her life.

Jayne, who was described as loving horses all her life, became a full-time equine podiatrist in 2006 after she was made redundant from Avon Rubber.

She had first entered the profession, treating horses’ hooves, to save the life of Casper, her first horse.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald:

Her family said: “Jayne always loved horses and was incredibly well respected in the world of horses and equine podiatry.

“She was much loved and will be sadly missed by her family and her huge circle of friends.”

Jayne was also a founding member of the Equine Podiatry Association in 2006 and co-founded the Equine Podiatry Training company with Dr Richard Vialls two years later.

Through this she was able to share her knowledge and passion for her horses with her students and was instrumental in getting the company’s Equine Podiatry Diploma approved by LANTRA.

She has been credited with saving the lives of a number of horses through her work.

Outside of her professional life, she was a member of the PSG choir in Devizes and enjoyed dining out and Indian cuisine.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash at Bollands Hill at around 3.40pm on July 9.
