The Isle of Wight Council could have a new leader tonight (Wednesday) as Cllr Lora Peacey-Wilcox faces a challenge to her rule.

A motion of no confidence has been put forward, by Cllr Chris Jarman and others, calling for the Alliance administration's leader to be removed and replaced with the Conservative leader. 

It could hand the rule back to the Tories, two years after they were ousted, and install a coalition cabinet with members from across the council.

It will be heard this evening at the full council meeting. 

Also on the agenda is the second consideration of Cllr Geoff Brodie's motion — to look at moving the authority to a committee system of governance — after it was discussed by cabinet.

Other motions have also been submitted by Cllrs Debbie Andre, Jonathan Bacon, Michael Lilley and Karl Love. 

Cllr Lilley is asking for equality in youth service provision across the Island, as youngsters face a "postcode lottery" of provision. 

Cllr Bacon describes the "ocean crisis" the Island is facing and is calling for the counci to declare and support and urgent need for ocean recovery. 

Cllr Andre is calling for support for the Southampton and Isle of Wight Music Hub's bid for funding from the Department of Education and Arts Council England. 

The hub — which aims to make quality musical opportunities accessible and affordable to under 18s — is hoping to be the lead organisation for the geographical region. 

Cllr Love is asking for changes to be made to the council's staff parking permit scheme, attaching the scheme to the car and not the employee.

The motion of no confidence is the second-to-last agenda item — just before members' questions. 

The meeting can only last three hours due to the authority's constitution.
