Firefighters from three counties have rushed to put out a burning recycling centre in Wiltshire.

Crews from the Pewsey, Devizes, Stratton, Westlea, Salisbury, Trowbridge, and central Swindon fire stations responded to 999 calls from Williams Metals Recycling in Louisville, Little Salisbury, at 2.44pm on Thursday.

They received support from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Andover and Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Newbury and Hungerford.

A Dorset and Wiltshrie Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "This is a large fire with the scrapyard well alight and firefighting is ongoing.

"There is a significant smoke plume which is heading towards Pewsey Village, so we are advising local residents to keep doors and windows closed and stay indoors where possible.

"This will continue into the evening."

Milton Road is closed in both directions and traffic is slow due to the large scrap metal fire from The Street (Milton Lilbourne) to Dursden Lane (Pewsey).
