Lloyds Pharmacy has closed its counter in a Chippenham supermarket for good amid a national cull of their 237 outlets.

The chemist has shut its pharmacy in Sainsbury’s on Bath Road, Chippenham, with a sign in place notifying customers that the counter is “permanently closed”.

A notice added that Sainsbury’s “apologises for any inconvenience”.

The nearest pharmacies for customers who used the Bath Road outlet are now the Lloyds branch on Rowden Hill, the Lloyds in Hathaway Medical Centre and the Boots store on the High Street.

The closure comes after Lloyds announced in January it would be closing all 237 of its branches in Sainsbury’s stores across the UK.

This decision was made in response to “changing market conditions” and is thought to have affected around 2,000 jobs.

A spokesperson for Lloyds said: “LloydsPharmacy can confirm that our pharmacy in Sainsbury’s on Bath Road, Chippenham has closed. This follows our earlier announcement in January that LloydsPharmacy will be withdrawing pharmacy services from all Sainsbury’s stores, to take place throughout 2023. Final plans for each pharmacy are being determined on a branch-by-branch basis. We are currently in consultation with those employees potentially affected.

“Throughout the process, LloydsPharmacy has been committed to helping patients easily find a suitable alternative provision. As part of this, branch teams have kept patients informed of when services from their specific pharmacy will end so that they can transfer their nominations to an alternative provision.

“LloydsPharmacy can confirm that no other LloydsPharmacy store is at risk of closure, except those within the Sainsbury’s estate.”
