Another major road is set to shut this month as essential tree felling works continue around the county.

Tree felling due to ash dieback has been a running theme along Wiltshire roads in recent months, causing disruption for motorists.

Multiple routes were closed in February and March as part of a month-long tree felling programme, including the A360 for four days and the A420 for ten days.

Now Wiltshire Council has announced the A350 will be shut for one night at West Ashton, from 7pm on Thursday, April 13, to 5am on Friday, April 14.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald:

The road will close between Ashton Hill Farm and the crossroads with Bratton Road and West Ashton Road, due to the presence of heavy machinery to remove diseased trees.

Cllr Caroline Thomas, the cabinet member for transport, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these essential works to diseased ash trees on the A350 at West Ashton.

“There is never a good time to undertake these works, but this overnight closure for one night represents the best compromise.”

Ash dieback weakens trees and can cause them or their branches to fall, posing a “serious risk” to road users.

The council has felled over 4,000 diseased trees in the past two years but have committed to planting 5,100 new native trees in their place.
