Police have launched an investigation into malicious ‘false alarm’ calls from a person who has dialled 999 to report a fire at a Swindon hotel.

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they have received “multiple fire calls” to a property on Station Road, Swindon, in recent days.

The property is understood to be the town’s Great Western Hotel.

A DWFRS spokesperson said: “We have received multiple fire calls to a property on Station Road, Swindon over the last few days.

“On arrival, firefighters have found each incident to be a false alarm and are believed to be malicious.

“We’re working closely with partners to resolve the ongoing issue.”

It is understood that fire crews in three appliances responded to two reported incidents at the 21-bedroom three-star hotel in recent days.
