A cerebral palsy sufferer says “cold and damp” in her housing association property has left her feeling “trapped” and alone.

Mum Jade Rogers, and her husband Dominic, have lived at the house at Pottows Field, Calne, for several years.

They say the storage heaters GreenSquareAccord provided them with have failed to heat the home properly, causing mould to develop over the last year.

The family are desperate to leave the home and claim the “substandard conditions” they live in are causing them and their son significant health issues.

Mrs Rogers said: “I’ve got an eight-year-old and I’m in a wheelchair. We’ve all had coughs, colds and chest infections and, when I get ill, I suffer more than the average person.

“We’re putting our clothes on in the morning and they’re damp, and my son is going to school wearing damp clothes, it’s not right. He constantly has a cough.

“We feel trapped and like no one wants to help us. I just think in this day and age it’s a bit sad that you pay your rent on time every month and your housing association won’t help you.”

Mrs Rogers added that the cold conditions contribute to the pain she experiences in her legs as a result of her disability.

Mr Rogers, an HGV driver, added: “We know from recent events in the news how dangerous damp and mould can be, especially to children.”

The couple have tried to treat the mould themselves but say it keeps coming back because of their “inefficient” heating.

Mrs Rogers said: “We treated it when it first appeared, but it doesn’t solve it because it comes back.

“We have the heaters on, but they don’t heat the place. They aren’t efficient at all and they cost an absolute fortune.”

GreenSquareAccord reportedly told the Rogers’ they would have to wait two months for a surveyor’s visit but have now brought this forward and apologised for the issues in their home.

A spokesperson said: “We visited to wash and treat the mould last month. We are aware that the issue is continuing and we are arranging for a surveyor to visit this month to establish the root cause.

“We have also arranged for another mould wash to take place on Friday, February 24.

“We are committed to working with Mr and Mrs Rodgers to resolve all the issues in their home.”

GreenSquareAccord has also agreed to inspect access issues at the property after Mrs Rogers claimed the drive is dangerous for her in icy conditions.
